Pressure-Treated Fencing

Pressure-treated wood uses preservatives to improve its resistance to moisture, insects, fungal growth, and decay. It retains the natural look of wood while providing added protection for backyard, privacy, and side-yard fencing.

Long Lasting

Pressure-treated fencing is designed to withstand moisture, seasonal weather, and everyday exposure better than other fencing types. With proper installation and maintenance, it can last 20 years or longer.

Insect Resistant

Preservatives help protect pressure-treated fences from wood-damaging insects that can cause holes and premature deterioration.

Prevents Fungus and Decay

The treatment also protects against fungal decay and moisture-related deterioration, making the wood better suited to prolonged outdoor exposure.

Affordable

Pressure-treated wood is one of our most budget-friendly wood fencing options. For homeowners looking for an affordable fence in Ottawa, it balances wood’s natural appearance with durability and a lower upfront cost than cedar.

Pressure Treated vs Cedar: Which Should You Choose?

Pressure-treated wood and cedar fences both offer a natural wood look, but they differ in cost, appearance, maintenance, and longevity.

Pressure-Treated Wood

  • Lower upfront cost
  • Treated to resist insects, rot, and fungal decay
  • Environmentally-friendly options
  • Requires ongoing staining/sealing

Pressure-Treated Fence Styles We Build

We build pressure-treated fences in several layouts to suit your privacy and design preferences, including full-privacy and semi-private designs, decorative tops or lattice, and matching wood gates. These options let you balance privacy, function, and the natural look of wood.

Fence Heights and Ottawa Bylaws

Fence heights depend on where you live and where you plan to place a fence. In most Ottawa locations, a fence cannot exceed 1 metre in a front yard or 213 centimetres in a side yard or backyard. Our team can help ensure you’re following your location’s bylaws before installing your fence.

How Much Does a Pressure-Treated Fence Cost in Ottawa?

Pressure-treated wood is typically one of the most affordable wood fencing options, but the final cost depends on your project’s size and design. Key cost factors include total linear footage and height, style and privacy level, number and size of gates, terrain and accessibility, removal of an existing fence, and site preparation.

Our Installation Process

1. Consultation and Quote

We discuss your property layout, privacy needs, style, height, gates, and budget before recommending options and providing a quote.

2. Site Planning

Our team confirms measurements, layout, property access, and installation requirements before work begins.

3. Professional Installation

Our expert installers build the posts, framing, boards, and gates according to the agreed layout. Project timelines vary based on fence length, terrain, access, and complexity.

4. Final Review and Cleanup

We inspect the completed fence and gates and clean the work area before finishing the project.

The Lumber We Use

At Ideal Fence, we use Pressure-Treated Brown MicroPro Sienna lumber for our fences. The wood’s brown pigment gives it a warmer, more natural appearance than traditional green pressure-treated lumber. MicroPro Sienna wood is certified as an Environmentally Preferable Product and treated with preservatives that help protect against rot, fungal decay, and insects.

Staining, Sealing, and Annual Maintenance

Pressure-treated wood requires routine maintenance to protect its appearance and reduce moisture absorption. Clean the fence as needed, inspect boards, posts, fasteners, and gates regularly, and stain or seal as needed. Newly installed lumber may need time to dry before treatment. To test the finish, place a few drops of water on the wood. If they’re quickly absorbed rather than beading, it may be time to reseal.

How Long Does a Pressure-Treated Fence Last?

With proper installation and maintenance, pressure-treated fencing can last 20 years or longer. Moisture, drainage, soil conditions, maintenance, and physical damage can all affect its lifespan.

Pressure-Treated Fence Repair

Storms, prolonged moisture exposure, loose boards, impacts, and gate issues can eventually require repairs. Depending on the damage, you may be able to repair or replace individual boards, posts, rails, or gates without rebuilding the entire fence.

My experience dealing with the guys from Ideal fence were first class. René the owner, from beginning to end , kept communication on point throughout the entire job. Considering this was my first large scale fencing project, I couldn’t have asked for things to go as smooth, and the very large crew of men ensured things wouldn’t drag on. I thank Rene and his entire staff for a great job, cheers to the gentle giant!!

Earlier this year, I placed an order for two fences (a 6' high cedar fence for my house including removal of the existing fence, a 7' high composite fence for my partner's house). After a competitive bidding process (involving 3 reputable Ottawa firms), I selected Ideal Fence as I was impressed with their knowledge, professionalism and pricing; Randy was our salesperson and he was excellent to work with. The work was completed ahead of schedule and within budget; the workmanship was top notch (I've never seen fence posts lined up quite that perfectly). And perhaps just as importantly, when we experienced two minor issues with our composite fence, Ideal Fence were on site within 48 hours to address the situation - to me, this is the true measure of a company that walks the talk when they speak about customer satisfaction. It has been a great experience working with Ideal Fence, from start to finish.
